2023 TechSHERO COMPETITION - Unleashing Girls and Young Women’s Potential in Technology

This competition is exclusively designed to encourage and celebrate the achievements of girls and women in tech. An exciting opportunity for brilliant young minds to showcase their skills and creativity in the world of technology. Organized by GWISE Africa in collaboration with SAGE Nigeria.

About SAGE Nigeria:

SAGE is an acronym for Students for the Advancement for Global Entrepreneurship. It is an international program initiated at the California State University Chico USA in 2002. It is currently operating in all the continents of the world.

The SAGE mission is to help create the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders whose innovations and social enterprises address the major unmet needs of our global community.

It engages young people in a hands-on learning process on how to create wealth, help others and their communities.

About GWISE:

GWISE Africa stands for Girl-Woman Initiative for Sustainability and Education (GWISE INITIATIVE), a non-governmental organization founded and registered in Nigeria in 2014. GWISE Africa is rooted in a firm belief in the development of the younger generation. GWISE, being aware of the multifaceted challenges militating against the growth and development of young girls, as well as the resultant negative effect on the society, is passionately committed to guiding the African girl through paths that would ensure she lives a fulfilled life and contributes positively to the development of her family, and society at large.

  • Participants to create a brief computer program to solve a difficult challenge identified in Nigeria.
  • Participants to submit the source code for their solution and their lean business model plan online.

Eligibility:
  • The competition is open to girls and young women (Secondary and Post Secondary Age).
  • Participants can register as individuals or form a team of 5 (Non-School Participants).
  • School participants can register between 1-5 persons i.e., single participation or as a team.
  • All skill levels are welcome, from beginners to experienced tech enthusiasts.

All submissions must be original content created by the contestant.

  • Web Development using CSS and Html
  • App Development using Python and Java Script
Judging Criteria:

The participants will be judged based on:

Creativity: Based on solution brought out, why did you choose this solution and what made you do it?

Problem Definition: What is the background or history behind it?

Research Knowledge: How well did you research to find the solution? How did you come about the solution? How did you create it? What research sources/sites did you use?

Solution: How well does it solve the problem in the real world?

Tech and Programming Skills: How well did you show your programming skills and make use of at least one programming language you are proficient in, in building your project.

Source Code: Explain what you have done and defend your source code well.
