Why Girls?

When a girl grows up straight and strong, her family, her community and even her country can feel the positive effects...”
~ Former UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon.

As potential mothers and leaders, girls have inert abilities and are naturally designed to bring positive change to any society, provided they have access to unfettered development. However, these potentials are often stifled by early-life challenges, including discrimination, limited opportunities and outright suppression of opportunities for self-expression.

At GWISE, we acknowledge the vital role of girls in nation building and the importance of their unfettered development. Ignoring these would be foolhardy, as it is widely recognized that “when you train a girl, you train a nation.” In the light of these realities, it is the responsibility of every society to prioritize the growth and development of girls.
